INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE
Adaptive Devices and Support Services
for Disabled Employees
In order to perform their jobs effectively and comfortably, disabled employees
require modified work conditions. With this in mind, Conwal evaluates,
acquires, and maintains office automation and data processing devices
specifically designed to increase office productivity levels for disabled
workers.
Conwal performs a needs assessment to determine
the extent of modification required, ensuring compatibility of the proposed
devices with equipment already in place at the work site. The installation
and integration phase includes preparing technical documentation for the
disabled employee as well as the employee's supervisor. Conwal is responsible
for a final evaluation report which addresses this phase of work in detail.
Equipment which is considered includes:
multiple keystroke substitution hardware and software; alternate input
devices such as eyescans and joysticks; voice input systems; Braille input
and output devices; large printout displays; speech output system; and
scanners or optical character recognition devices that convert text information
to speech.
Conwal specialists determine and deliver
specific training approaches, based upon equipment selection, for both
employees and supervisors once the equipment is in place, ensuring minimal
transitional delays or problems.
In order to maintain cost efficiency, technology enhancement and renewal
techniques are applied as frequently as possible: improving and refining
current office features and functions is considered before new components
are purchased. Conwal determines the extent of equipment upgrades and
considers the benefits that disabled employees will receive. The maintenance
services under this contract include all replacement parts, labor, and
transportation required to maintain the equipment.
